Portola PTSA activities this year

In partnership with the El Cerrito Recreation Department, the PTSA sponsors a noontime activities program during both lunches with sports and crafts activities . . .

We also:
- provided volunteers for August student registration and orientation
- organized a Barnes & Noble Book fair to raise funds for library materials and purchase books for Portola classrooms
- gave individual grants to teachers for school supplies and department mini-grants in Math, P.E., English, History, and other academic areas
- secured grants for assemblies and school equipment
- organize MONTHLY staff appreciation luncheons
- support a safety committee to help supervise students during lunch and before/after school
- schedule clean-up days to sweep walkways and pull weeds
- support an 8th grade promotion ceremony, graduation party and field trip
- provide chaperones for field trips, assemblies, and school dances
- sell Portola t-shirt to promote school spirit
- support weekly math clubs and math competitions
- recruit parent volunteers for feeder school presentations and the annual school information night for prospective parents
- maintain a school website, school E-Tree, sign board, and monthly newsletter to keep parents, staff, and students informed about school activities
- invited guest speakers to present on topics such as intervention strategies for at-risk youth and safe routes to school
- in collaboration with the El Cerrito High School Safety Committee, provided free fingerprinting and screening for volunteers
- successfully advocated to keep our school community intact during the construction of a new school
- organized a luncheon to show appreciation for our science fair judges
- purchased a power washer for the custodial staff, school supplies for the administrative staff, and snacks for students during testing
